Digging in to Research

What am I reading now?  Saving Lord Whitton's Daughter: A Regency Romance Novel (Susan Tietien)

Annnd . . . what do I think so far?  I really enjoyed this story--the characters, the premise, the tension between the main characters, the writing--all good!

Lady Bethany would rather die a spinster than submit to marriage—and thus reveal the horrible secret she has harbored for more than a year
Lord Locke is far too immersed in his service to the Crown for romance, but Lady Bethany is in dire circumstances.

Indebted to Bethany’s late father and his close friend, the earl offers a perfect solution for both of them: a marriage in name only.

Perfect, if only they weren’t so irresistibly drawn to each other—and if Bethany hadn’t found herself falling in love with a man even more mysterious than his reputation. Perfect, until she unwittingly learns he’s protecting her from a threat to her life.

To Mark, Bethany is just another assignment, a woman he’s convinced is hiding something. His offer of marriage was meant only to make it easier to safeguard her.
But when the simple threat turns to attempted murder and treason, Mark realizes that Bethany has stolen his heart and he can do nothing less than throw himself into a race against time to save her, whatever the price.
Research

Deanna and I (pen name: Jo Noelle) are writing in a new genre for us. It's still romance, but this time it's historical romance. And it's set in the American frontier. We've been doing quite a bit of research for this. Here's how:

Read about it...

View it... movies and travel videos on YouTube

Experience it...

One of the perks of being a writer is getting lost in the research of the new world we're writing in!

Luck of the Irish

What am I reading now?  The Sheriffs of Savage Wells (Sarah M. Eden)

Annnd . . . what do I think so far?  This is laugh out loud fun!

BLURB:
The small town of Savage Wells is barely big enough for the people who call it home; it certainly isn’t big enough for more than one sheriff.
Yet when famed lawman Cade O’Brien rides into town, he finds he’s not the only man ready to take on the job. What’s more, one of his competitors is a woman.
Paisley Bell loves her town and the eccentric people in it. She’s been the job to anyone else. Not only does she love the work, but she also needs the income to take care of her ailing father.
It’s a true battle of the sexes, and sparks fly between the two as Cade and Paisley banter and boast, neither one ready to acknowledge the attraction they have for each other. But when Paisley’s former beau shows up, along with a band of bank robbers, Savage Wells is suddenly faced with the kind of peril that only a sheriff can manage. Who will be man enough—or woman enough—to step up, claim the badge, and save the town?

Murder Plot and Free Books

What am I reading now?  A Viscount's Proposal (Melanie Dickerson)

Annd . . . what do I think so far?  This is the second in the series but could be read as a stand along. (Though the first one is wonderful  too!)

BLURB: Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society’s shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She’s determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents—or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage—alone and after dark—the ensuing gossip may force them together.

Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress’s husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall’s coach “accident” was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged.
Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career—and his life.

Wedding Dresses

What am I reading now?  The Wedding Dress (Rachel Hauck)

Annnd . . . what do I think so far?  This is a tender story of finding strength to love. Two thumbs up--5 Stars--standing ovation!

BLURB: Charlotte owns a chic Birmingham bridal boutique. Dressing brides for their big day is her gift . . . and her passion. But with her own wedding day approaching, why can’t she find the perfect dress…or feel certain she should marry Tim?

Making Beautiful Dresses
Speaking of wedding dress--here's mine.

Many years later, I cut that dress apart and made two baby dresses out of it. One for each of my daughters to use for their babies' blessings. Neither daughter was married or considering a family at that point, but I had hope. :)

Here's one of the grand-cuties in one of the dresses I made.

And another one...
I hope the dresses become heirlooms that
future generations will enjoy too.
