Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity

Stick in the Mud meets spontaneity  What am I reading now?  Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity (Meet Your Match #3 by Rachael Anderson)

Annnd . . . what do I think so far? This is a really fun series. I've read the first two books and not only did I like the stories, I liked the writing too! Although the books are in a set, you don't have to read them in the order they were released. Each one is a stand alone story. YAY!

The Blurb: Home from college for the summer, Samantha Kinsey steps into her role as nanny for her two favorite little charges. But when she finds herself playing chauffeur more than playmate, her summer outlook quickly turns from fun to bleak. That is, until she drives the girls to a family-owned ranch and meets Colten McCoy—a genuine, hard-working cowboy, who's as set in his ways as he is handsome. Although he claims he doesn't need any fun in his life, Sam’s determined to help him find it. But she'll soon discover that cowboys are about as easy to train as wild mustangs. Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity is about an adaptable girl and a not so adaptable guy. It’s about learning to accept people for who they are and realizing that sometimes who they are is exactly who they should be.

Graphic Novels

What am I reading now?  Michael Vey, The Prisoner of Cell 25 (Richard Paul Evans)

Annnd . . . what do I think of it so far?  I know I'm late coming to this party! I just started this book and am enjoying it. It was recommended to me by a friend, who often likes the same books I do. I think that's the best way to find books!  I have a lot of "friends" on Goodreads, but I pay special attention to the ones who rate books similarly to the way I did. Their recommendations mean more to me and usually result in a purchase. :)

Here's the blurb...
To everyone at Meridian High School, fourteen-year-old Michael Vey is nothing special, just the kid who has Tourette’s syndrome. But in truth, Michael is extremely special—he has electric powers. Michael thinks he is unique until he discovers that a cheerleader named Taylor has the same mysterious powers. With the help of Michael’s friend, Ostin, the three of them set out to discover how Michael and Taylor ended up with their abilities, and their investigation soon brings them to the attention of a powerful group who wants to control the electric teens—and through them, the world.

Graphic Novels
by Nathan Hale

This past week I had a special treat to listen to Nathan Hale talk about his journey as an author/illustrator of graphic novels. It was fascinating to listen as he told the history of graphic novels and comics, from being all the rage to nearly dying out and now on the rebound, all the while illustrating what he was talking about. He also told a story of Napoleon and the Louisiana Purchase, again complete with ongoing illustrations.

If you have a chance to see him, do it! This is definitely a person I'm recommending to our school to bring in for an author day!

Here's a bit in action...

Happy 800th Birthday!

What am I reading now? Lady Emma's Campaign (Jennifer Moore)

Annnd . . . what do I think so far?  I almost didn't read this book because of the cover. In fact, it's been out for six months and several of my friends recommended it to me, but I couldn't get past the modern looking girl with the smirk. I know, I know--never judge a book by it's cover! Finally, I read it and loved it! (the story--the cover still doesn't suit IMO)

The blurb:
She would follow him through peace and war.
London, 1811
The London Season is ushered in with a thrilling flurry of invitations, gowns, and parties. But despite her status as belle of the ball, lovely socialite Emma Drake simply cannot fathom becoming entangled with any gentleman of her acquaintance. For in truth, since childhood her heart has belonged to Captain Sidney Fletcher, a man of the sea—and her brother’s best friend. Emma knows that Sidney’s directive to free the Spanish city of Cadiz from French occupation will be dangerous, but when word arrives of his capture, she is frantic. Determined to aid her brother in Sidney’s rescue, she hides aboard his ship and sets a course to Spain. But the realities of war are a far cry from the drawing rooms of London, and Emma finds the man she loves a mere shadow of his former self. When a series of events leaves them trapped together behind enemy lines, Emma and Sidney must embark on a journey fraught with danger—from a bloody hunt for Spanish treasure to the battlefields of war-torn Spain, new threats lurk around every turn. As their flight becomes increasingly perilous, Sidney and Emma must trust each other with their lives—but can they trust the other with their heart?

Another Snow Valley Anthology

fUn  AnThoLogY
by a group of great authors. I read their last anthology
and loved it too!

Summer in Snow ValleyWhat am I reading now?  Summer in Snow Valley
#1 Bestselling Amazon Authors of Christmas in Snow Valley, have teamed up again with six wonderful summer novellas that are sure to make your summer sweet and sassy!

Annd . . . what do I think so far?  First of all--if you haven't read the "Christmas in Snow Valley" set, read it! This anthology is every bit as lovable as the first. There are so many cute or tender moments in these stories that you get that new thrill of falling in love over and over. My favorite story in this collection is from Taylor Hart, First Love. The main character is vulnerable but hopeful. I also loved the first story by Cindy Roland Anderson, Catching Caytie. The other stories are great too and kept me turning pages and very happy that I had another story to read.

The Blurbs:
Catching Caytie by Amazon Top Seller Cindy Roland Anderson On the night Caytie Holbrook intends to break up with her cheating boyfriend, he blindsides her by announcing their engagement at a dinner party. When Caytie discovers her father is in on the scheme, she runs away from her home in Beverly Hills to hide out at her uncle’s ranch in Snow Valley, Montana. While Snow Valley is a beautiful place, Caytie only plans to stay until her twenty-fifth birthday when she’ll inherit a trust fund her grandmother left her, allowing her to pursue her dream to move to Italy. That is until she meets Jace McAllister, an incredibly sexy—although somewhat grumpy—cowboy who threatens to disrupt her plans.
Tin Foil Tiaras by Amazon Top Seller Jeanette Lewis Cameron Elliott has come to Snow Valley to coach Annalisa Drake in the Miss Snow Valley pageant, and prove to her demanding boss that she deserves a place at the prestigious Westbrooke Agency. But Annalisa’s handsome and protective big brother, Kyle, is determined to keep his sister from becoming a reluctant beauty queen. As Cameron tries to win Kyle over, Kyle insists some things are more valuable than a title and as crazy as it sounds, Cameron might just believe him.
A Touch of Love by Amazon Top Seller Cami Checketts Annie Stirland has endured a lifetime of teasing, embarrassment, and isolation due to her speech impediment. When irresistible cowboy, Luke Wilson, seems to be falling for her, she’s certain he’s too good to be true. A tragedy involving his ex-girlfriend proves she’s right. What man can resist sheltering someone they once loved? Annie knows she should walk away, but Luke isn’t ready to give her up.
First Love; Love First by Amazon Top Seller Taylor Hart Janet Snow doesn’t expect to get caught in a full-blown make out session at her brother’s wedding. Especially not with Michael Hamilton, the boy she’d written off ten years ago. Even though they both agree to no complications, Janet's not sure they can stick to it given their past. After a trip to the hot springs, a helicopter ride, and a proposal, even the most cautious single mother would start to wonder if true love really is just about the timing. Now Janet has to make a choice—play it safe or trust that her first love could also be her last.
Romancing Rebecca by Amazon Top Seller, Kimberley Montpetit Rebecca Dash loved spending her teen summers swooning over Jane Austin and helping her aunt at the Starry Skies Bed & Breakfast in Snow Valley. But as a recent college grad, she’d rather write sappy romance novels than go out with guys that make her a nervous wreck. When a team of fire-fighters set up camp on the lawns of the B&B and Captain Wade catches her eye, Becca soon learns that there’s more to a happily-ever-after than a flirty fireman with muscles the size of the Montana hills.
Love in Light and Shadow by Amazon Top Seller Lucy McConnell Mercedes O'Shay has sworn off gorgeous men because they have a tendency to break her heart. When she meets her new neighbor, Chet Bauer, she immediately puts him in the Do Not Date category based on his well-defined muscles and stunning blue eyes. But the more Mercedes learns about the cowboy who reads classics and forges iron, the more she realizes the heart doesn't see in black and white; it sees light and shadows.
