Have you read a bad story? Probably at least part of a bad story, before you tossed the book in the trash. What makes a bad story? One way might be that the main character doesn't reveal enough of his/her personality. Not just a surface personality, but the the real them--hidden deep under the layers of masks. The characters I like to read about are characters who interpret the events around them, giving me an opportunity to gather evidence that reveals their strengths, weaknesses, biases and dreams.
